Feeling the heat? Try a cool mist spray!

Summer can be temperamental.
By midday the sun reaches its zenith and its gentle rays can take a turn towards the extreme.
It's time to cool things down, by retreating into the shade and getting out your mist spray!
This is a very practical accessory that is not only invigorating for you, but also pleasantly revitalises your skin thanks to the minerals and trace elements contained in the micro-droplets of water that it releases.

Capture the essence of roses

Celebrated for its soothing and astringent qualities, rose water is THE product that any elegant woman owes it to herself to keep in her bathroom.
And the good news is that summer is the perfect time to create your own hand-made stock of this divine beauty product.
Simple to make, the recipe consists of throwing a good handful of nicely-scented petals into a quarter litre of boiling water and leaving them to infuse for 20 minutes before carefully filtering the liquid from the petals.
Nothing further remains than to pour it into a bottle... and store it somewhere cool! link....

But how do you prevent perspiration in a way that is both effective and natural? The solution is to be found in the alum stone. It is in fact a miracle stone. Alum is transparent and 100% natural; rich in potassium this mineral leaves, after dampening, a thin layer of saline on the skin. And the result, you skin stays lovely and fresh. link....

An excellent treatment, you should bend over it for 10 minutes with a towel over your head, to achieve the luminous skin you really want. link....

Maximum hydration for tanned skin

Just like our skin, our hair is sensitive to the damaging effects of the sun, the sea and the chlorine in swimming pools. But even if we usually remember to cover our skin with sun block before exposing ourselves to UV rays, we often forget to do the same thing for our flowing locks. And yet, today there are thousands products specifically specifically designed for our hair. From the classic Monoi with high tech hair oils through to the nourishing creams, there is something for everyone! In which case, why deny ourselves? link....

A sand scrub for beautiful skin

We never cease to be amazed by the cosmetic properties of sand! Not content with contributing to the loveliness of our legs by brilliantly massaging them as we walk, this blend of micro pebbles is reputed to be one of nature's best exfoliants available to us.
If you are going to the beach this summer, make the most of it! The best way is to use it slightly damp, massage it delicately over the whole body, paying particular attention to areas of hard skin.
Then a quick dip in the sea to rinse it off; and hey presto! link....

waterproof on the beach

Many are they who go to the beach without make up, for fear of ending up with mascara running down their cheeks after a dip in the sea. A nightmare, which it is now possible to avoid, thanks to the properties of new waterproof products. Less aggressive than before, but just as steadfast when faced with the ravages of water, they will allow even the most beauty conscious to be as beautiful in town as by the sea, or the pool, and can be removed at the end of the day with an appropriate make up remover. link....

Give your complexion a boost

With age, the epidermis begins to tire. If the cosmetics industry offers a not inconsiderable range of high tech potions and other miracle products, there are nevertheless other, much less ruinous, effective and suitable treatments available. All you have to do is massage the whole of your face each day, without forgetting the neck, with a cotton wool pad saturated in rose water; it will give your complexion a youthful glow! link....

Tips how to make lipstick last long
The secret to making your lip color last longer is first of all to apply a layer of foundation, dust some powder on lips and then color. After these manipulations your lipstick will not change color or dark your lips. It’s also useful to apply two coats of lipstick for long lasting lip color. Matt lipsticks normally last longer than the shiny ones.
Applying a lip liner
After preparing the lips, take a lip liner to define the shape of lips. Outlining the lips is good, if you want to prevent lip color bleeding. The color of the lip liner should be close to lipstick color: the best variant would be the same or a little bit darker color. Here are tips how to apply a lip liner. Start at the centre of lips, draw a “V” on bow of lips, after it draw the line to outer corners. Then line the bottom lip. If you want to make your lips look thicker, outline them just outside your lip line. In case you want your lips appear thinner, make the outline just inside your natural lip line. After the shape is defined, fill it with lipstick. After filling the interiors, apply the lipstick in the corners, which is easier with the open the mouth
Some more tip for lip care and a beautiful lip make-up
Use lip care stick before going to bed with your other face treatment. Your lips are sensitive and need care and rest. Very dried and chipped lips can also be helped by applying sunflower oil on them.
You can apply lipstick with a brush.
Mix lip care stick with color lipstick, if your lips tend to look dried and chipped. Too much lip care stick can make the final color brighter in the middle and the rest color concentrate on the periphery of the lips.
Refrain from licking your lips.
Lip-gloss can be applied either alone or on matte lipstick to make your lips shine.
Apply cotton buds to remove excess lipstick.
You can always experiment and create new beautiful looks with different colors of the lipstick and lip liners, mixing lipstick and lip-gloss, drawing different shapes of your lips. While experimenting don’t forget to regularly take care of your lips, because if your lips are healthy, they look much more attractive and can be a real turn-on. link....

Healthy Habits

How to avoid late night eating?
Does this sound like you? You inhale a light yogurt for lunch and eat hardly anything all day so by the end of the day you are so hungry that all your discipline goes out the window. You have a night eating habit and are someone who uses food not as fuel but as an antidote to stress. There are two troubling behaviors that come into play with night eating and those are mindless consumption and lack of portion control. This can make trying to lose weight extremely difficult and can also increase the likelihood of obesity.
Why do we eat at night?
Many women eat late at night because that is the only time of day that they get in any peace and carbohydrates offer stress relief because they raise the level of serotonin, the good mood chemical in the brain that makes us feel at ease. Other diet minded women eat very little during the day thinking their self -discipline will carry them through the evening, only to have the strategy backfire. Going for long period restricting food makes it harder to eat reasonable when you begin to eat.
Tips to stop night eating?
Don't starve all day. Make sure to eat breakfast, lunch and snacks so you are not ravenous in the evening.
Curb your appetite- Try a drink that nutritionist call Citrus Chill which is a squeeze or lemon and lime and some artificial sweeter over crushed ice. Try on of these before dinner and after dinner.
Set a clear food cut off time - Try brushing your teeth at 7:30 pm and designate that as your food cut off time. This is hard at first but gets easier over time. link....

The perfect food ?

Foods with deep rich colors signify a very strong concentrated dose of antioxidants. And we have studies that show us that berries, in and of themselves, help prevent bladder infections and Alzheimer's, age-related brain decline. Berries have fiber, but the also have vitamins and minerals, and they're low in calories and they're sweet. So they're perfect."
Beans, dried or canned, are wonderful. Canned beans are just as nutritious.

Tips to help make/keep you thin?

One treat at a time. It is ok to have a cheeseburger once in a while but don't use the justification that since you are already splurging that it ok to order the French Fries along with it. Allow yourself an occasional treat, as long as it is accompanied by smarter food choices like fresh fruit and vegetables.
If you can't just have one - avoid them. There are some treats that you can't just have one so it is best to just avoid those treats altogether. You may discover that a chocolate chip cookie triggers uncontrollable cravings but one square of dark chocolate appeases your sweet tooth quite nicely.
Don't lose weight for some one else. Reset your weight lost goals so they revolve soley around you. Sit down and figure out the benefits to you of changing your lifestyle. Writing down your goals can really help.
Avoid winter weight gain. Keep a bikini or a skimpy sun dress on the back door of your bathroom so you can visualize yourself wearing it every time you head for the leftovers.
Genetics are not on your side but… there are still things you can do. First of all set realistic expectations. First of all, you may never be a size two but that doesn't mean you can't be a healthy size 10. Small things like walking to the grocery store, choosing the stairs over the escalator can really make a diiference. Research shows that people who are physically fit and maybe carry a few extra pounds as opposed to people who are their ideal size and not physically fit.
After that workout I can eat anything. Most people over estimate the amount of calories burned. After a great workout reward yourself with a bath or a massage not food.
Avoid buffets. Most people love buffets because of the variety but they also tend to overindulge. To be safe just avoid them.
Remember make lifestyle changes don't diet. Quite simply diets don't work long-term so you are better off to make simple lifestyle changes and keep them up over time.
Avoid the hefty salad. A salad heaped with tons of toppings can be just as many calories as a burger. Be realistic about what goes on your salad. Adding a ton of croutons and you might as well be eating a sandwich.
Sweet and Carbs boost your serotonin but thankfully so does exercise, sex and low-fat carbohydrates so choose wisely.
Just because you brought it at the health food section doesn't mean it is healthy. Organic potato chips have just as many fat grams as regular potato chips so be warned.
Pace yourself with the slowest eater at the table. Studies have shown that eating slower can be more enjoyable and led to less calorie consumption.
Let's meet for a walk instead of let meet for drinks. Either way you are getting the same social interaction but also doing something good for yourself. Studies have shown that having an exercise buddy can lead to longer exercise. link....

Fashion Do’s & Don’t’s

The Biggest Fashion Shopping Mistakes
  1. Don't talk yourself into an outfit that isn't flattering to your frame. There are only two kinds of clothes in this world. Clothes that flatter you and clothes that don't and avoid the latter regardless of how popular and trendy they are.
  2. It is one thing to go shopping with your girlfriends because that can be very social and enjoyable but keep in mind don't shop with a competitive friend because she will cajole you into buying more and possibly unflattering items weather or not you need it.
  3. If you are shopping for a cocktail (event) dress remember to bring your shoes. That way if you need to have in-store alterations you will be all set.
  4. If you need to power shop remember to bring a list. This can help focus your attention and keep you on task.
  5. Nothing good will come from buying uncomfortable shoes regardless of how fabulous they are.
  6. Don't buy something you don't need because it is a fantastic sale price. I know we have all done this but it is a waste of money and closet space.
  7. Don't buy on impulse. Ask yourself the following questions when deciding if to buy. Do I need this? Does it fit with my lifestyle or wardrobe? Where am I going to wear this? If you are still undecided then put it on hold and if you are still thinking about it at the end of the day -buy it.

Fashion Shopping tips for you
  1. Spend money on great shoes because they can make or break an outfit. You can even wear them with jeans and look fabulous!
  2. Buy items that fit your lifestyle. If you know you are going to live in your jeans then it is ok to spend $150 a pair especially if you had to try on dozens to find the right fit. Buy clothes to suit your lifestyle.
  3. Spend money on staples on shoes, bags, a cashmere sweater, a black pair of pants and skimp on belts, socks, trendy tops, scarves, hats and sunglasses.
  4. Before you shop know what you own. Make a point to go through your closet at the beginning of every season.
  5. Invest in undergarments because the right foundation garments can make everything you own look better. link....

How to dress 10 pounds thinner?

Start with the butt - Your bottom and hips will always look thinner when you are dressed in a solid color and it doesn't even have to be black it can be a beautiful incandescent hot pink if you like but solids tend to slim where other patterns don't. Now a lot of us don't go around wearing patterned pants but a lot of us wear patterned dresses and skirts - so be warned.
De-emphasize your waist - If you are trying to deemphasize your waist and or your middle then avoid crop jackets because they break up your natural lines rather then help you create long, lean lines.
Smaller bust - if you are small busted then try for some wrap shirts, which will give you the illusion of a bigger bust and smaller waist.
Big hips - go for some flat front pants, which are always a winner.
Big hips - don't be afraid to go for a black pencil skirt with black hose. It will make your hips do a disappearing act.
Big Bust - avoid lighter colors on top for they will over-emphasize your bust size and go for a geometric-shaped top with a slim pant and you will have a more balanced look.
Trying to play up your waist - try a slightly raised waist that tends to make the torso look narrower and a flared skirt which also makes the waist look narrower.
Unless you are a super model avoid horizontal stripes.
Only buy a pleated skirt if the pleats are stitched down and don't bunch up at the waist adding thickness.
link....

How do I make my butt look smaller?

Choose pants that ride low. Pants that ride higher will create the appearance of more surface area on the rear end. Chose pants with a wide waistband. This will help optically dissect the derriere horizontally and that will also give the illusion of a smaller fanny. Make sure the pants are a straight leg with a boot cut. Never wear a tapered leg. If you wear a blazer get one that ends around the center of you tush. Again this will optically cut your posterior in half. link....

Tips for wearing slim pants

Don't be afraid to wear slim pants -even if you don't have the perfect figure they actually make you look taller and leaner if you do them right.
Try wearing a form fitting hip length tunic which can help you hide your problem areas. A cowl neck or pattern around the top will draw attention away from problem areas
Don't underestimate the power of dangling earrings and powerful accessories. link....

Strategies for buying pants for any body style

  • Try buying one size larger which will usually give you the right not too tight fit.
  • Stretch fabric is crucial for comfort especially since at different times of the month you may need more ease.
  • Uncluttered look - flat front, no pockets or embellishments, is a very flattering look and prevents bulk around the hips.
  • Be careful with low rises on slim pants because you always have to be careful with how your walk or sit. A relative medium rise will give you more flexibility.
  • Apply a sense of proportion to your look. For example it is difficult to wear fitted on both the top and the bottom. Try soft blouse, easy fit jacket or long sweater with fitted pants. If you choose to where fitted on top and bottom remember that wearing the same color on top and bottom elongates the frame.
  • Avoid light colors or patterns on the bottom as they tend to add pounds. Unless you are a twig save those beautiful prints for the top or wear menswear type patterns on the bottom.
  • Heels always make your pants more flattering. link....

Eyebrows

Eyebrow Waxing
All about waxing your eyebrows.

Waxing is a quick and relatively easy alternative to plucking your eyebrows. Most beauty experts recommend getting your eyebrows waxed professionally but that can be expensive - up to around $10-$15 dollars depending on the salon. If you are confident and then here are some tips for waxing your eyebrows yourself.
Start by prepping the eyebrow:
Brush the brush into place with toothbrush or clean mascara wand, so that their natural shape is neatly defined. Next, apply an astringent such as witch hazel to anesthetize the skin under the brow. Discover your natural brow shape by standing several feet away from a mirror, and following these simple steps
The length of the eyebrow:
Hold a ruler parallel to your nose, and level with the inner corner of the eye, to work out where the brow should begin. If your eyes are close together, make the gap between the brows wider. If your eyes are far apart, don't wax the start line of the brow too much so that they are closer together. Mark the correct point with a dot.
The curve of the eyebrow:
You can assess where the highest point of the curve/ arch should be by holding a ruler from the edge of the nostril past the outer edge of the iris (the colored part of the eye) and up to the eyebrow. Mark the spot with a dot.
Now line up the dots in a gentle arch to draw on the ideal shape of the eyebrow that you want to achieve. This will give you a guideline to go by when applying the wax. You should aim for a smooth arched brow that tapers slightly at the outer ends.
What to consider when applying the wax:
I recommend that you buy a professional waxing kit - basically a jar or tub of wax which can be warmed up in boiling water and applied with a small applicator or spatula, and (usually muslin) removal strips. Each product varies slightly, so be sure to read the manufacturers directions carefully Warm up the wax to optimum temperature and use the small spatula to apply a thin layer of wax to the growth. Make sure that you only use a small amount of wax on the spatula to avoid the wax dripping when it is applied. Apply wax with the hair growth under the eyebrow, (i.e. in the same direction that the hair grows in). Be careful a little goes a long way and make sure to avoid letting the wax dry.
The hair removal process:
Never wax above the eyebrow, only shape from below. Waxing from under the brow will widen your eyes and help to get the line even. This will make you look younger and much more glamorous if done correctly! As soon as it is applied remove the wax against the hair growth, (i.e. in the opposite direction that the hair grows in). This is done by gently smoothing a piece of cotton muslin over the waxed area, pulling the skin taut with one hand, and pulling the muslin off with the other.
It is a good idea to take a little hair off at a time, especially if you have fairly this growth. You will be surprised how much difference a little hair removal will make to your appearance.
The final step:
Any straggly hairs left over after waxing can be easily plucked out using a set of good tweezers. Apply a soothing balm like tea tree oil onto the area afterwards. You should avoid direct sunlight, acid based facial treatments, and liquid makeup for several hours.
To give the gorgeous new eyebrow shape emphasis, use an eyebrow pencil or tinted brow shadow to subtly fill in any gaps, and even out the natural color tone. Congratulations you have successfully waxed your own eyebrows! link....

Is using a product like Chapstick addictive?

No Chapstick is not addictive. It seem like it is but that's probably more psychological. To avoid dry lips try not to lick them so often. Avoid lip products with salicylic acid which can dry lips out.
Keeping lips moist in the winter is tough. One reason they are more vulnerable than other parts of our face is because they don't have oil glands. Emollients like Vaseline and Chapstick or wax-based balms help seal lips again the elements. Many products claim to be medicated which is often not really an accurate claim. Blistex has 0.5% phenol, which actually does qualify as "medicine". The trouble with phenol and other added ingredients such as camphor or menthol is that they can irritate sensitive lips.

Skin Care - Dry Skin Relief

Does dry skin cause wrinkles? No, this is a myth.
Some causes of dry skin are:
Cold weather and low humidity
Central heating can make air dry which can cause dry skin.
Aging - Lower estrogen levels, thinning skin, and the fact that our skin can not produce enough oils are some of the reasons our skin is more prone to dryness as we age.Dry skin affects people who have skin type I or II more frequently. In some cases dehydration, malnutrition, diabetes, eczema or low thyroid hormones can cause dry skin.
Treating dry skin:
When you shower use lukewarm water and don't take long showers or baths. Apply moisturizer while skin is still damp to seal in moisture. Use mild soap and avoid perfumed soaps.Use a humidifier at home.Avoid skin care products that contain alcohol.Don't wash your face too frequently.Use moisturizers which contain emollients. Emollients, such as urea and mineral oils, soften skin and provide a barrier to keep moisture in and harmful agents out. Your moisturizer should also have lipids (fat or waxes) such as cholesterol, lecithin or glycerol.Dry skin can cause flaky and rough skin. To get rid of the layer of dead skin use a gentle exfoliant containing alpha hydroxy acid or beta hydroxy acid. Wear sunscreen.Apply moisturizer frequently.

What to do about dark spots on your skin?

Dark spots (hyperpigmentation) are caused due to past sun damage from your childhood and your teens that shows up in your 20's and 30's . Try a 2 percent hydroquinone cream and see if they fade. It should take a couple of months for you to see results. If you don't see results you can get your dermatologist to prescribe a 4 percent cream. Please note that hydroquinone is not recommended for pregnant or nursing women. link....

What is the difference between a moisturizer and a serum?

They are two different products and serve different purposes. A moisturizer hydrates the skin with humectants and prevents water loss.
A serum contains high concentrations of specific ingredients like antioxidants that helps maximize absorption. Serums aren't designed to be moisturizing although some contain a humectant like glycerin so check the ingredients on your serum. Otherwise you will need both - the serum first and then the moisturizer. link....

The Essential Skin Care Routine

It doesn't need to be elaborate but these 3 steps are essential?
You can add additional laying steps such as applying a toners or an exfoliant as your skin demands but these 3 are the essential steps.
1. Cleanse: Wash your skin thoroughly on a daily basis to remove the dirt, debris, pollutants, and perspiration that accumulates on a daily basis. If you have dry or sensitive skin, use only warm water to wash your skin and use a mild natural cleanser every few days. If you have normal or oily skin, be sure to wash with a gentle cleanser on a daily basis.
2. Moisturize: Unless your skin is very oily, you will want to use a moisturizer everyday to keep your skin hydrated and healthy. Your skin needs moisturizer all year long as both the indoor winter heat, and summer sun can be equally damaging to your skin.
3. Protect: Use a sunscreen when possible, regardless of whether or not you plan on spending much time in the sun. The sun's rays are very damaging and if you get in the habit of applying sunscreen. link....

Secrets to beautiful skin

Beauty Tip: What is the single best thing you can do for your skin?
Quite simply - wear sunscreen. Ultraviolet radiation damages the skin and can lead to wrinkles, premature aging, age spots, and cancer. Take extra precautions to make sure your skin is not exposed to the sun's rays. Use a natural sunscreen, or a moisturizer that contains sunscreen (at least SPF 15) everyday.
What is the second best thing you can do for your skin?
Drink lots of water. That means at least 8 glasses of water a day. Drinking water is one of the best ways to keep your skin healthy. Water helps to hydrate the skin and move waste and nutrients through the system.
Beauty Tip: Things you do daily for your skin.
Aside from the sunscreen and the water consumption, exercise, rest, and good nutrition lay the foundation for beautiful, healthy skin. A proper diet is not only good for your overall health, it also helps to ensure that your skin will receive all of the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that it needs to maintain and repair cells.
Ways to combat the dry skin that comes with age.
Older skin has fewer sweat and oil glands than younger skin. Dry skin may be caused by frequent baths, certain cosmetics or medications. Avoid using harsh soaps when bathing, and if possible, cut back on the number of baths or showers each week. A sponge bath with warm water may help to clean and revive skin without stripping the skin of its valuable moisturizers. When you do use soap, try using a natural very mild soap that does not contain any dyes, parabens or perfumes. Follow up the bath with a moisturizing lotion concentrating on problem dry areas. A good all natural moisturizer is one of the foundations for a healthy skin care regimen. Continue moisturizing throughout the day to keep skin healthy. Your hands and face are particularly susceptible to daily damage, and may need to be moisturized several times. link...

The Perfect Pedicure

"There are two great reasons to give yourself a pedicure," says L.A.-based celebrity manicurist Marsha Bialo. "The first is to give your feet a well-deserved, pampering deep cleaning. The second reason is to get your toes looking sexy for your summer sandals.
Pamper Prep
Position a chair behind a clean, wide bucket filled with hot water. Fold a bath towel into a square and place it at the bottom of the bucket. "This will give your feet a comfortable surface to rest on when you soak them," says Bialo. Add half a cup of Epsom salt, a natural disinfectant. "I also like to throw in a few capfuls of Johnson + Johnson Soothing Vapor Bath for Colds," says Bialo. "It contains rosemary, eucalyptus and menthol -- three therapeutic, cleansing herbs that make the room you're in smell just like a spa.
Grooming Guide
Use a cotton pad soaked with nail-polish remover to take off old polish. "If your cuticles are dry, add a drop of olive oil to the pad before using it on your nails," suggests Bialo. Clip your toenails straight across with clippers. Use a nail file to smooth the edges, including the sides. Best shape: square with rounded edges.
Soothe Your Soles
Soak your feet in the hot water for five minutes, then rest them on the edge of the bucket. Dip a foot file, such as Dr. Scholl's Dual Action Swedish File, in the water, then use it to smooth your heels, the balls of your feet and the outsides of your pinkie toes. Pat feet dry with a towel. To get cuticles under control: Use the edge of the nail file to push your cuticles back, then a nail brush dipped in an exfoliating scrub, such as Rainforest Stress Therapy Foot Scrub, to clean the area where your nail meets your skin. If you feel that you must get rid of your cuticles, have a pro do it in a salon so you don't end up with painful, ingrown toenails. Rinse, then dry feet and apply a generous amount of super-moisturizing foot lotion or cream. Try: Bliss Spa Foot Patrol. Massage it into your feet and calves. Wash the moisturizer off your toenails with soap and water and let them dry.
Polish How-To's
Create space between toes with a foam toe separator. Apply one coat of base coat, two coats of color and one coat of top coat. Confused about which color to go for? "For summer, say good-bye to burgundies and browns," advises Bialo. "The hot shades are bright. Think coral with a sheen to it, hot pink and orangy-red." Use a Q-tip moistened with nail-polish remover to remove any polish that missed the mark. Let your polish dry for a few hours before putting on close-toed shoes. Apply one coat of top coat three days after your pedicure, then every third day after that to keep polish from chipping. If your feet are going to be in the sun, use a top coat with sunscreen, like L'Oréal Ultragloss Top Coat, to keep the polish from fading. link....

Skin Care Dos and Don’ts

Water 101
Don’t take too many showers. Yes, it’s summertime and you’re working up a sweat, but taking multiple showers throughout the day can wreak havoc with your skin: Though you might think it’s hydrating, topically, water can have a drying effect on your epidermis. To avoid looking like a prune, douse in small doses and always moisturize immediately after showering.
Do drink plenty of water. While topically water can hinder your skin, drinking 64 ounces of water daily is essential for a healthy complexion because it flushes out toxins and keeps your insides running efficiently. Whether you drink bottled, filtered, or tap water doesn’t matter—getting your eight glasses in matters most. Remember that fruits and veggies are also good sources of H20. link....
